In October 2008 I was mulling over the idea of a universally recognised blog icon, unfortunately after a few scribbles I got side tracked and forgot about it until a couple of months later when I found my scribbles in a notepad... so I launched illustrator and 15 mins later the blog icon was born. As you can probably tell, I based the icon on the RSS feed icon as virtually all blogs have an RSS feed option and that's how a lot of people read them.
Of course, I'm the first to admit that I've not created a new standard icon per se, but who knows, in years to come maybe everyone will be using it (if blogs still exist that is).
In any case, here it is, it's free, it's yours to own, absolutely no restrictions, you can edit & tweak it however you wish. Feel free to send me your comments and your thoughts, but if you think it's really good, then please tell everyone else you know, blog it, tweet it, like it... Please visit the Facebook page and follow me on Twitter @theblogicon
For a .zip containing the blog icon in various sizes PNG & GIF formats, including the original Photoshop & Illustrator vector files, click here. If you prefer to get straight at the GIF’s & PNG’s you can grab them click here.
Thanks for you support and happy blogging
enjoy

Well it would appear that I’m not as original as I thought I was, again : )
I was informed this morning that a company based in Spain named Hipertextos registered a very similar blog icon a couple of months before I created mine. They also created a website last week where you can download their version. Either way, thanks for your support, and let’s make these concepts the universally accepted blog icon!
